Worshiping @ Tanner
At Historic Tanner Chapel A.M.E. Church, we're always excited to welcome new visitors. We hope you'll join us for a service, and we want to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Here's what you can expect when you come to our 10:00 a.m. service.
Our church is located on the corner of 8th Street and Jefferson Street at 20 S. 8th Street. Parking is located behind the church. If you have mobility restrictions or young children to carry, feel free to use one of the spots in the southeast corner of the parking lot behind the church. These spots are closest to the accessibility ramp and door. We like to keep these spots free for visitors and people who need assistance.
At Tanner, our heartfelt mission is to see individuals come to know Jesus Christ and grow in their Christian faith. Since 1886, for over 138 years, we have joyfully spread God's good news throughout the Valley of the Sun. We are committed to continuing this legacy, praying that our congregation will serve as a beacon of God’s love.
We are a community bound by love, faith, and diversity, where every individual is on a unique spiritual journey. If you're visiting us for the first time, our friendly greeters will warmly welcome you, help you find your way around, and answer any questions you might have.
Our services are a vibrant expression of faith, featuring heartfelt worship through song, prayer, and preaching, all rooted deeply in the Bible. We adhere to traditional Methodist beliefs, including the Holy Trinity, Baptism, and The Lord's Supper, emphasizing that faith can transform lives according to the scriptures.
At Tanner, we also embrace the Apostles' Creed, often recited in our services, alongside the 25 Articles of Faith. This Apostle's Creed, one of Christianity’s most ancient, is respected widely across nearly all Christian denominations today.
We invite everyone to join us, regardless of your Christian background or lack thereof. Tanner is a place of inclusion, acceptance, and transformation. Here, you are free to come as you are, without concern for attire—God’s acceptance is granted through Jesus’ sacrifice, not what you wear. Our congregation is a tapestry of all walks of life, where casual attire is just as welcome as suits, especially in the summertime.
Join us for service every Sunday at 10am. At Tanner, you’ll find a home, a place of love and acceptance where everyone, including you, is welcome.
